Why Publish For Children?

Okay, we’ll admit that kids’ materials, especially educational kids’ materials, pose their own particular set of challenges. The market is a little more limited in some ways, and kids don’t often buy their own books. Kids also have this habit of growing out of whatever you make for them. So why do it?

In our minds, there’s no better group to which a writer or publisher can devote their time and energy. Along with these challenges come many, many rewards. Here’s why we love making all kinds of books, apps, videos, and other learning materials for young minds:

o   Kids are amazing thinkers. Not only are they openminded, but they’re curious, creative, and they love big ideas.

o   Creating for kids means you get to be more creative with formats. Kids take their stories in all different ways, and it’s a delight for us to have the freedom to play with genre, length, verse, and interactivity.

o   More than any other age group, with kids, words matter. If you only have a limited number of them, you’re compelled to make them count, and that is a beautiful challenge to have.

o   Kids aren’t afraid to tell you what you think of your work, and to give interesting and constructive feedback. They’re empathetic and insightful critics.

o   Words lead to ideas, and hopefully to action. In kids’ publishing, there’s a huge opportunity to have our work make an impact. Every kid who takes something positive from our work and maybe even uses it as they grow, is important to us.

o   Kids’ books aren’t just for kids. It’s highly likely that anything you create will be read aloud, shared with family and friends. Kids’ books create bonding moments and spark great conversations. Even grown-ups can take something away from the experience of reading a kids’ book.

o   We get to create the stuff we wish you had when we were young readers.  We can address questions we had as children and create a space for kids to find their own voices. Who doesn’t love an opportunity to think like a kid again?

As far as multimedia publishing goes, this is the best gig in town, and we feel so lucky to have it. We’ve always got new stuff on the horizon, so be sure to follow us on our social media channels and watch for us we pop up around our community!
